ADDRESSING a get-toghether in a function in a programme in the university the Vice-Chancellor, PK Abdul Azis said, "everybody has to learn to live in harmony. We cannot live without any religion in our society, all the religions have equal rights in Indian constitution." Prof PK Abdul Azis, vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) said while addressing a get-together as chief guest.

The function was organised by Inter-Religious Dialogue and Peace Centre, Aligarh under the direction of Fr Jose Akkara.

Prof Azis further said that Hindu and Muslim are two eyes of our nation and they send across the message of peace, secularism and non-violence. In this sensitive era, country needs men like Sir Syed Ahmad khan, who dreamed to establish an English university, even when he himself didn't have much knowledge regarding the language. He also initiated women education in it.

Guest of honour, Engr Mohammad Zakir Ali Khan, honorary vice-chancellor, Sir Syed Univerity of Engineering and Technology, Karachi , Pakistan spoke about the symbolic meaning of Id-ul-fitr and Deepawali and congratulated India for having a mission to reach the moon.
Dr Rajeev Lochan Nath Shukla (famous as a pundit in AMU), reader, department of Hindi, AMU put forth a message of unity in diversity after citing the example of bhagwan Shiv Shankar's family and its symbolic meaning.

Reverend father Bhaskar Jesuraj, manager, St Fidel talked about an urgent need to combat hatred and intolerance. He also encouraged to promote inter-religious dialogue and cooperation to eliminate suffering and violence of all types.

At last vote of thanks was delivered by Prof IS Siddique followed by the National Anthem.
