In an unprecedented way today Vice Chancellor presided the Court meeting, usually Chancellor presides the meeting. Though the meeting did not have any specific agenda, it was expected that the court would elect new members in place of those who had completed their term along with 6 members of Executive Council.

It has to be noted that Naseem Ahmad, present Vice Chancellor is completing his term by May 2007. Lobbying for next Vice Chancellor had already started and from this point of view this meeting of the Court holds special significance. In the campus the debate that whether the next VC should be from academics or  bureaucracy has gained momentum. AMU has seen three consecutive VCs who were from bureaucracy and the general view this time is that some academician should become the Vice Chancellor.
