No doubt Diwali is a festival of lights, peace, harmony and poetry. Our people are engaged in celebrating it with their family and friends. Who cares for those are living far away from the main stream of sour society due to their physical or mental disabilities? Diwali is a celebration of good over evil and real meaning of Diwali is to clear the darkness from the society.
One lady who celebrated her real Diwali with the children who have a range of physical or mental disabilities likes CP and Down syndrome.
Dr Atiya Aabid, Reader Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University & Advisor of Social Service Society, Abdullah women’s college AMU, Aligarh, went to Nirmal Hirdya Ashram (Mother Teresa Ashram), Aligarh along with 100 girl students of women’s college, AMU, to celebrate Diwali by firing crackers, Rockets, Anar. She also distribute sweets, biscuits, Toffees, chocolates among the children, those are suffering from physical or mental disabilities.
According to sister Eligius, Mother Teresa Ashram, Aligarh, "Dr Atiya Aabid occasionally came here, on the eve of Diwali, Id and other festivals. She always tried to share the sadness and aloneness of over children. When our children play with her, we feel like heaven. Such efforts are solutions those address the heart of the problem.
Dr.Atiya Aabid shares her thoughts and said I love to some thing for such children. I try my best to takeout the time for them and many of them are my friends. She further said that the eyes of such children always waiting for some one special to come and provide them a SMILE.
Approximately hundreds of girl student those came for this social activity gained different experiences. Many of them came out for the first time to such a place of special needs children.
Devoshri Mukharji, B Sc 2nd year student shared her first ever experience after saying that I never ever feel the life of disables children, now I have decided to keep coming here with my parents. Here, I celebrated my REAL Diwali.
Dr. Kiswar Zafeer, department of English, AMU, Aligarh were also wetness of this marvelous Dewali said that every person must spend some time from their daily routine for such children and this is a social responsibility of All. Their lips always need to smile and we can give it to them.
Asiya Islam, President of Social Service Society, Abdullah women’s college, AMU, Aligarh said our society works for disable children, street children and for free education of poor children. Society has been running its services for the last 12 years. We have also planned to organize "PLAYs" to create awareness about social activities.
