A seminar on “ causes and treatment of Osteoporosis” has been organised by department of Kulliya, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya college,Aligarh Muslim University,Aligarh. Dr M Khalid Department of Radio Diagnosis, Jawarlal nehru medical college,AMU, Aligarh preside over this semnar and deliverd a lacture over increasment of Osteoporosis patients in India.

Dr. Khalid said that young people are being more affected than the old people, studies shows that the patients of Osteoporosis were 26 million in 2003 but it is feared that the figure may increase to 36 million by 2013. After the age of 50 year,one woman out of three and one man out of twelve is suffring from this disease. Every year thousands  of cases of hip and wrist fractures are being registered and according to the National Osteoporosis foundation, three lakh patients of hip fracture, seven laks of spinal fracture, two and half lakh of wtist fracture and three laks of other parts of body fracture are annually registered.

Refering to the treatment and awareness, Dr. khalid fruther said that old age people should adopt safeguarding measures from fractures and try to lead a healthy life. He said that the doze of Calcium and Vitamin-D should be taken properly and abstinence shuold be practiced from alcohol. Cigrette or other intoxicants.A regular exercise is a must for maintaining proper weight. To keep bones healthy aerobics, skipping, walking, tennis and running should be adopted as a habit.
