Biggest day of old students of Aligarh Muslim University “World Summit of AMU Alumni-2008” an vision-2020 for finding out the role of Alumni to create a New Future of AMU” was celebrated and fully appreciated by all Alumni came from entire world to their Alma mater, today. Approximately 450 old students are on his why to finding out their students like at campus. Vice President of India, Mr. Mohammad Hamid Ansari inaugurated this function and said "we did not appreciate the need for organized philanthropy for public purposes." He further said about female literacy as a need of country and made a strong plea for launching a campaign for female education as it is a must for educating new generation.
Mr. Hamid Ansari was very mush in mood to appreciate all the new concepts of Vice-chancellor,AMU, Prof. P K Abdul Azis and praise his efforts for taking an initiative of setting up a corpus fund of 100 Crores for reequipping the laboratories and lunching some News courses as per the need of professional world. Mr. Hamid Ansari delivered an effective speech which was containing some ideas for old boy and some for AMU presently students. He urged the Aligarians to introspect and to do some cost accountancy on the occasion. Sir Syed's message to bring the fruits of modern education to the Muslims of India succeeded to a point but the educational advancement succumbed to selectivity. As a result literacy level remains below the national level and only sections of the well-to-do were exposed to modern and higher education.
He futher urged to the AMU students to adopt a proactive mode to withstand the challenges of knowledge society. Mr. Hamid Ansari urged AMU old boys to adopt innovative thinking rather than nostalgia and it is the need of the hour. Appreciating the concept of opening new courses, up gradation of facilities and construction of new hostels, Mr. Hamid Ansari said that the proposed "AMU Endowment Fund" will usher in a new era of academic rejuvenation. From the prominent stage AMU Chancellor Justice A.M. Ahmadi released the Souvenir of the Summit and presented its first copy to Professor Emeritus Irfan Habib. UP Minister Mr. Jaiveer Singh, Mr. Kaukab Hameed, Mr. Masood Akhtar (KSA) and Dr. Musarrat Ali also spoke on the occasion.
Mr. T.V. Rajeswar, Uttar Pradesh Governor, made a announcement to contribute of Rs. One Lakh to AMU Alumni Fund from Governor's discretionary frund and paid rich tributes to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
Mr. Sayyid Sibtey Razi,Jharkhand Governor urged AMU to put emphasis on e-education and e-literacy said that society based emerging knowledge has thrown open new challenges.
AMU Vice Chancellor Professor P. K. Abdul Azis said that the Summit is braced for repositionig the role of AMU in the contemporary globalized world. He declared that the AMU will celebrate a decade long Centenary programme of academic rejuvenation with the support of AMU Alumni. AMU will celebrate its first centenary in 2020. It was converted into a central university in 1920.
