Peace March of AMUTA
September 27, 2008
Unanimous resolution passed by the Executive Committee of the AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) in its meeting held on September 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Staff Club.
This meeting of AMUTA while reiterating its condemnation of all acts of terrorism and violence which claim innocent lives irrespective of the religious affinity of perpetrators of these crimes.
The AMUTA demands a thorough probe by the sitting judge of Supreme Court into all such incidents and also that the guilty be brought to book. However, the rule of law must take its course and the innocent one’s should not be branded as a terrorist until proved guilty. Some vested interests with their eyes on the coming elections are bent upon taking political mileage out of these incidents. Communal and fascist forces are bent upon maligning and targeting a particular community. They are targeting the minority institutions as well. Therefore, it is our duty as the law abiding citizens of the country to ensure that such people do not succeed in their misadventure to politicize such sensitive issues. For this an impartial enquiry into the incidences of Kanpur and Batla House both must be constituted and the real culprits must be exposed and punished.
The AMUTA proposes to take out a peace march on Monday, 29th Sept. 2008 at 11.30 a.m. from Staff Club to the residence of the District Magistrate and handover a memorandum to the District Magistrate for onward transmission to the President of India, Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of U.P. expressing our concern and over the recent happenings in Jamia Millia Islamia and resolve to stand by the rule of law.
Note: The AMUTA appeals to AMU Community including Students, Non-teaching Staff and the Teaching Faculty to participate in this peace march.
