The British not only colonized India politically and economically but by deforming their religion, culture, tradition, languages and literature tried to enslave them psychologically. These are the views of world famous writer and historian William Dalrymple expressed in the seminar “Bahadur Shah Zaffar 1857-From poet to a Rebel” at Aligarh. He presented a paper in which he gave a detailed description of the arrest and atrocities, which Bahadur Shah and his family met after the Revolt of 1857.
Welcoming Dalrymple Prof. Shereen Moosvi, Secretary Aligarh Historian Society said that though his book “The Last Mughal” is debatable it couldn’t be totally discredited.
In his presidential address Prof. Irfan Habib said that one couldn’t deny the contributions of Bahadur Shah Zaffar in strengthening the Hindu-Muslim unity in the country.
