Press Release Aligarh : 29.06.2008: A condolance meeting of Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), Aligarh to mourn the death of President, Indian Union Muslim League, Janab G. M. Banatwala took place underchairmanship of Prof. Farhatullah Khan Patron, The MBMC & Professor Emeritus of AMU. In the well attended meeting Jasim Mohammad President The MBMC said that Banatwala saheb was also a member of AMU Court & EC despite being a statesman of high stature. In his death, we have lost a well wisher of Aligarh Muslim University and tall leader of the Community. Prof. Sayyid Ahsan Patron, The MBMC & Former Chairman Dept. of Islamic Studies, AMU said that Banatwal always took sharp stand on the problems of the Muslims from the judgement in the Shahbano case to the issue of minority character of AMU he always stood by principles. Prof. Mohammad Shabbir Director, Ambedkar Chair, AMU drew the attention towards the fact that Banatwala was not only an effective speaker but also a responsible citizen. He brought Muslims and other weaker sections on central stage of Indian politics. Prof. Farhatullah Khan Patron The MBMC & Professor Emeritus of AMU recalled that it was Banatwala who brought privet member bill in the parliament. On his action, former Prime Minister Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi became active and persuaded him to withdraw the Bill. Then he brought official Bill, which is now "Muslim Women (Protection) Act". At the end of the meeting a special prayer was said for Banatwala's soul. The meeting was attended by large section of people including Modabbir Azam, Mohad. Farooque Khan, Mahtab Khan, Izharul Haq, Imran Perwez, Gulam farid Sabri, Mehboob, Sharfaraz khan.
