It is heartening to note that the AMU alumni meet is going to take place and it is waiting for some constructive suggestions which might be tried to put to practice. May I suggest that the alumni should think on establishing a trust which should pool fund to establish a good residential public school affiliated with CBSE/ICSE upto +2 level. And this school should combine a quality coaching to prepare students for IITs/PMTs/National Law Schools etc.
If Abhayanand, IPS, of Patna can run a coaching, "Super 30", so successfully, can't Alig alumni do it? This school should preferably be located outside Aligarh.
[However, given the fate of Hamdard Public School, Delhi, I myself am sceptical about this particular proposal].
Why do I put emphasis on school? Because good schooling is able to serve as feeder to the entrance tests of quality educational institutions offering professional courses. About 6% of engineers and doctors in India are Muslims. This proportion can go up if we are able to run good school(s). It is pity that from Delhi to Kolkata, we don't have such educational institutions. It is also pity that UP Muslims have not been able to establish a single Medical College. I see that a good number of poor muslims from Rampur (and around), rush to JNMCH, AMU, for treatments. It would have been great if a minority Muslim medical college could come up in Rampur.
Regardless of the quality of education and management, at least Bihar Muslims have succeeded in running a minority medical college at Katihar (eastern Bihar).
The proposed alumni Trust should also have a future plan to open, minority Polytechnic, Engg, MBA etc, the way south Indian Muslims are able to run such things so successfully. The proposed Trust/Management must include such south Indian Muslim Bodies/Trusts. May I also propose the alumni to coordinate with Karimia Trust of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, who are running an educational institution with amazing success. After studying their functioning and funding, could they offer fundings and other kinds of help (if they accept) to them so that they could expand their activities. Not necessarily we should be megalomaniac, we can help them establish ITI, Polytechnic, B.Ed. and other such humble but employable courses. It is also a high time that they should contact with the management of the Insaan School, Kishanganj, Bihar. If things work, then the alumni, in coordination with the Insan Foundation should try to bring this instituion back to life
