Greetings for the day...
The Delhi Horse Show-2008 took off its flight on 30th March 2008. A series of events were lined up for the first day itself.
APRC Tent Pegging began at 7:00 a.m. It was very interesting to see that three riders came in to represent the Aligarh Muslim University . These riders were:

1. Athar Afsar Sulaiman, member Riding Club for whom it was his third National Delhi Horse Show in succession. 2. Ex-Captain of Riding Club, Mr. Salman Sayeed. 3. Ex-Captain Aleem Siddiqi.

Three runs were given, 2 runs on 4 cm pegs and 1 run on 1 cm peg. Athar Afsar Sulaiman cleared all the pegs and collecting 14 points out of 18. It was the second highest score in the event. The highest being 16 points by Baljit Singh of PPS Nabha. Ex-Captain Aleem Siddiqi scored 10 points and in terms was fourth. Ex-Captain Salman Sayeed scored 8 points. All the spectators were of praise for the Tent Pegging skills of the riders from AMU and also for their charging voices.
When final sheets were collected, 8 points were reduced for Athar Afsar for speed as he had crossed the 100m mark in more than 7 seconds in two of the runs. Similarly 6 & 4 points were reduced from Ex-Capt.Aleem & Ex-Captain Salman Sayeed.
The AMU riders who would have won Silver and bronze medals in the event were very dejected by the judgement based on points in the confined event.
The riders participated on borrowed horses from the Army to represent AMU and keep the name of AMU alive in the National Equestrain Circuit, as the AMU Riding Club couldn't manage to get its team to The Delhi Horse Show-08.
People of the Army like Col.P.P.Singh, Major Salim Pathan, Dfr. Yunus Khan, Polo Player Rajat Kapoor, Col(Retd) Pickle Sodhi and many others praised the participants representing the Aligarh Muslim University for their commitment and enthusiasm for love of Horses and Equestrian sports and extended their help and support for bringing back the lost pride of AMU Riding Club which it had once.
Equestrain Federation of India (EFI) General Secretary, Col. Sarpratap Singh congratulated the riders for a very fine show and asked them to participate on competent horses so as to get the rewards for their talent and hard work. He said that after seeing the technique and passion among the riders, he beieved that they must take back bags of medals and give in a lot of competition.
Another round of applause came in from 61st Cavalry Unit of the Army who praised Athar Afsar Sulaiman for a perfect Gold winning tent-pegger and a dressage rider.
Let's hope we see a truly competent and able team from AMU next year in the Delhi Horse Show and the administration takes some keen interest for getting the standards high of the riders and horses. Atleast every year, riders should be motivated to attend the Delhi Horse Show to see the level of Horsemanship that is required of them to compete at the national level.
Lastly let's congratulate Athar Afsar, Salman Sayeed & Aleem Siddiqi for great efforts to keep AMU's presence felt and displaying great horsemanship spirit.
Wishing all the riders good Luck and Bon Voyage to The AMU Riding Club.
Best Regards,
