Mar 30-08 : AMU Teachers' Association... Print E-mail
Written by Dr M. Sajjad

On 27th March 2008, the AMU Teachers' Association, on the requisition of a small section of teachers, demanded to re-discuss the issue of the Off Campus Centres/centre of Advanced Studies and Research of AMU (misleadingly circulated as "Study Centres", which are relevant for the distance Education schemes only).

It was sad to see that unwarranted interruptions leading to cacophonies, were much more frequent. One hopes, we are not degenerating down to the level of  sections of indisciplined politicians elected to the legislative bodies.

Anyway, the discussion continued almost till 10.45 p.m. and ultimately it was 'resolved' that a committee of 5 teachers will elaborate upon the proposal of having distant campuses. It was also recommended that all the relevant bodies should discuss the issue threadbare before taking any decision. Myself proposed that the statutory restrictions/ambiguities should be clarified whether AMU Act mandates us to have campus beyond a few kilometres of the present one, what to say of in distant cities.

I hope, our Chancellor, Justice Ahmadi, who fortunately happens to have been the Chief Justice of India, will be requested to give his advice on the issue, before/while discussing it in the EC/AC/Court etc.

Another agenda was also planned to be discussed, but constraint of time led it to be deferred for being discussed only in April. In fact, a few teachers have proposed it to be discussed by the AMUTA, as they wish that the implementation of the Justice Mathew Report will be harmful for AMU. Will it be so?
