I am attaching here with the pictures taken at the residance of Mrs.Salma Iqbal (Akhlaque) and my wife Mrs.Anjum Ahmad.
The Trophy named after Mrs.Khursheed Nur ul Hassan, wife of late Prof.Nur ul Hassan of AMUA who later became the Governor of west Bengal and the Education Minister in the Govtt.of India.
I had won this trophy in 1968,1969 and 1970 but this trophy was,wrongly, given to Ms.Shama Iqbal who became the winner of Gir's Singles event in 1971-72.
I was stonished to see my name engrossed on this trophy on the left side and on the other side the name of Shama Iqbal is engrossed.
What a pleasant surprise to me after almost 39 years.
I had gone to see Mrs.Salma Iqbal after 39 years who offered me a cup of tea and snacks in his house.
This trophy was instituted by V.M Hall Common Room when Prof.Abbas Musavi was the President and Prof.A.H.Naqvi was the Provost.
If any of the students of that era reads this story pl send ur reactions now.
It has never happened that a trophy of Men's Singles winner is awarded to the Women's Single winner but it had happened in VMHall of AMUA which was disliked by all except a few lovers of girls of that period.
I had felt very bad and sad,obviously, to see that scene that day but now after 39 years it appears a funny act as I have won many other more important trophies in and out side AMUA. But,it is after all a very new experience which I now want to share with some of my Aligs.
Salma Iqbal is living in Aligarh and is a teacher while her younger sister Shama Iqbal is living in Bhopal. Youngest Sister Shaheen Iqbal who was also my first ever mixed doubles partner when I was in 8th claas in Minto Circle and we became the mixed doubles Champion in 1963.
I was the singles,doubles,moxed doubles and the luckey doubles Champion while Shaheen Iqbal was the Girls' Single and doubles Champion alongwith her elder sister Shama Iqbal.
These three sisters alongwith her aunty(Khalajaan) Ms.Naseem Firdause were the Champions of TT for many years and played good TT in and outside AMUA and won many titles and brought the laurels for the University.
I had gone to see Salma aapa alongwith my wife Anjum who incidentally happened to be the school teachers in the same School.Dr.Zakir Hussain School.Aligarh.We discussed many old memories of our time. It was a very pleasent visit.
I plan to organise a get together of our old TT players in near fututre where many old champions of AMUA like Shamim Riaz, Moin Uddin Alvi, Prof.sabih Uddin Alvi, Shuja Uddin Alvi, Jawed Haider, Avon Kumar, Ajit Kumar, Sardar Jaspal Singh, Vivek Bansal (my student of TT) and the M.L.A of Aligarh now, Bhatrat Ranjan, Rajan Bajaj, K.K.Handa, Khalid Rashid Sherwani, Haris Ansari (younger brother of Mr.Mohd.Hamid Ansari V.P.of India), Mohsin Khan, Rizwan Ullah khan, Alok Kumar Mathu (Chief Engineer India Navey), Hero of many films, Akbar Rashied Siddiqi (my best doubles partner in AMUA), Jamshed Sherwan (Dubai), Mrs.Salma Iqbal, Shama Iqbal, Shaheen Iqbal, Mrs.Masood Ali Mirza Ms.Semina Khan, Ms.Rita Pasricha, Ms.Yasmin Qasim (D/O Prof.zahoor Qaim, VC of Jamia Millia Islamia), Ms.Parween Ahmad and many more old beauties and heroes would be invited to show thier old shots on the table in AMUA.
Prof.P.K.Abdul Azis, the VC of AMU would be invited to see them in action,after almost fifty years and so?. Any one of you who would be interested to play there is requested to tontact me on my cell or e mail; The programme will be in the last week of December 2007 in AMUA and in Aligarh Distt.also.
