Unanimous resolution passed by the Executive Committee of the (Aligarh Muslim University) AMU Teachers’ Association at its meeting held on June 25, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the Staff Club.
This meeting records its shock and disappointment over the unwarranted remarks of Mrs. Pratibha Patil, UPA’s Presidential candidate, on Purdah (Veil). The remarks are historically incorrect, unfounded and untimely as the practice is followed by some women out of reverence for their religion and culture. Such irresponsible utterances will have only a negative impact on the efforts of those who are working for the emancipation of women.
The meeting urges upon Mrs. Patil to avoid religious matters and withdraw her controversial remarks.
