Prof Basir Khan Lodhi - An Example of Courage and Conviction Print E-mail
Written by Dr Mohsin Raza

Prof Basir Khan Lodhi was born in Badaun, he  passed BUMS from AMU Tibbiya College in 1971.

He wanted to take up Surgical career. He was discouraged by everyone including his own brother who later became professor of Anatomy in Medical College and all his family members. I was then  Registrar in General Surgery Department at AMU Medical College, Prof. Ammar Hasan was Head , Prof Naseem Ansari was reader and Prof SM Ashraf was Lecturer in Surgery.

With the permission of Head of Department we allowed him to be an Observer trainee in Surgical wards and Operation theatres. A Young,  handsome with a virgin beard on his cheeks, pleasant, down to earth, honest and working in the Hospital day and nights, he won the hearts of everyone in the Department of General Surgery in a very short time. He started assisting various Surgical operations in routine and emergencies. When we  saw his competence and enthusiasm, we allowed him  to operate under supervision.

He worked with us till 1974 and attained sufficient competence to Operate Hernias, open  and close Abdomens for various operations. With his sincerity he won the hearts of all seniors and Juniors and his performance was no less than than the regular Surgical trainees.

He got a Job as Lecturer in Surgery  in Unani Medical College Bombay in 1974. He has been doing Surgery independently and is now Professor of Surgery .

I met him in Bombay on 8th June 07. I was so pleased to learn that he  has performed 1000 Gall Bladder operations and has done more than 50,000 Surgical Operation till now.

He is a living example of Courage and Conviction.

He is quite  aware of the modern Surgical techniques. His message to Tibbiya Students is that they must have courage  and honesty with the profession .

Jahan Chah ..Wahan Raah

That’s the best example and absolutely will give courage to the new comers to find a way for success.

I came to know about that website from my cousin and it’s a wonderful platform to give strength to our younger brothers and sisters in the form of such stories, career guidance and social helping. These small things will make a difference one day INSHA-ALLAH.

In my opinion if we keep reminding our younger brothers and sisters about hard work, faith in Allah and good intentions then there is no doubt one day we will be out from current crisis as a Muslim community.

I request and remind myself also to write these kinds of articles to encourage our younger brothers and sisters.

Good work. keep it up..

Dear All,

Dr. Raza saheb, a senior to us, has rightly illustrated the example of one of my close friends in addition to Dr., Patient visa-vis Hostel fellow relations. I can very well visualize the then Baseer Bhai running from one place to another. We used to call him but he was always too hurry to complete desired talk might be useless talks(gosip). At a moment Dr. Baseer was seen here within no time he was available at JN Medical College. This was the unseen, expected future hidden in that energetic young Baseer Bhai. He has experienced his hands on me in early eighties when he was at AMU and I went from Delhi. He took the job so casual that scared me. Got all right though it took a little time. Second time we met in Bombay in mid eightees. As usual he offered another his services again. Believe it he did it and assured me never to bother for the problem for the remaining life to guarantee the least. Till date I am fine. Whenever I was caught by any medical problem in my family, I, without missing, used to take second thought from Baseer Bhai though I was having class one facilities provided by my organisation, ONGC. Still I am in continuous touch with the Dr. despite I left Bombay more than a decade back.
And it pays me a lot in the form of right advice from a right person. Throughout my stay at Bombay for a decade (1984-1994), we frequently met at pre-set points and time. During those leisure moments too he used to ask me to get him pardon so that he could attend many
a patients on any route we planned to cover. I am witness to have seen the size of wounds, length of scars, smooth stitches. Also I have observed how little he
used to charge. Sometimes, I advised him to go professionally. "Allah gives what
these poor patients can pay me", he replied. So Allah rewarded Prof. Dr. Baseer
Lodi, lavishly leading life staying in his own flat at Meera Road, Mumbai.
Dr Lodi is live example to inspire those who are unable to see a way as Prof. Baseer found out from 'Fann-e-Jarrahi' to modern Surgery, every medico long for.
Salute to Prof. Baseer Lodi, Badayuni.

let we make new environment of learning and encouragment and we will see bright star of every feild.

Dr. Raza saheb
thank you very much for encouraging a Tibbia college student. Now tibbia has changed much.some teaching staff are co-opratve and compitent a few are just teacher like other departments of university.University authorities are also not interested in development of Tibbia colege specially in providing better environment for clinical learning. Here an example is enough to show the attitude of authorities(eg Chairman,Dean , VC )towards clinical training. Nearly 50% of students are female in Tibbia college .Thousend $ thousends of rupies are spending every year for construction of Boundry walls , matteled road , fixing of AC and so on ,but administration is unable to provide a simple labour room where we girls can learn the how to perform a normal delivery. It also very unjustice with the students who are doing PG in same department but has no experience.I request authorities specially chairman ,dept. of Niswan utalise her experience in our training.

I have come across to learn about the compliments on a web site of internet of Respected Dr. Mohsin Raza, a learnet and a senior surgeon, who had supported me whole heartedly at Medical college, M. U. Aligarh. I express my hearty gratitude for his compliments given from the bottom of his heart. It is a great pleasure for me that a highly profiled doctor like Sr. Mohsin Raza has appreciated me so, much so that I am compelled to think whether I really deserve for such praising and compliments? I dont have words to thank Dr. Mohsin Raza and other learnet commentators who have also given their comments and admiration on the site. I do not have such capabilities but have been trying my best to serve the people as much as I could, and want to continue to serve till the last breath of my life. It is my immense desire to see my students to come up with their abilities and efficiencies and do some remarkable performance in the field , perhaps which shall be the real complement to my dedication in the field of Surgery.
