Often we get into the situation where we can refer or hire someone for a job position provided one has the appropriate knowledge and experience. Sometimes this experience is so specific that finding a qualified candidate is not easy and in that situation someone having only information about the subject can also be considered. Besides few professional courses where company recruit them as a trainee or provide employment, most of the time students have no idea what to do and how to approach for a job after completing their respective course/degree. Due to the limited exposure of corporate functioning teachers may not provide this information. There are many start-up jobs that can be done in the beginning and before getting desired job. The Information of well known jobs/career is available here and there but such information is hard to find for most of the jobs and at one place.

The experienced alumni can play a vital role and provide this information beforehand to minimize the struggle time. Similarly there are few expert careers that applicants might not know unless they have adequate industry experience and in that cases specific but subject knowledge and a referral can make a huge difference in a career. If it is communicated to them in either during the course or in their early career, they might prepare themselves for esteemed career and hence give an option to hire or refer them for a position.

Some times we spend time on different networks on expressing ourselves on different issues, supporting and rebutting on a topic in a hope to make a difference in others lives. Some times we don't think it is worth to express ourselves but we still desire to give back and look for a better way. There is no better way than sharing our knowledge with students particularly at the time when they are all set to start a career with urgency and seriousness. You may hide your identity if you feel shy about your jobs during struggle time but who knows it's worth for someone who might be wondering how to survive outside the AMU campus.

MeraChaman has started sharing this information and appeal you to help the students of your institution about which you want to discuss, show your sentiments and spare your valuable time in discussions.

Suggested guidelines how to share our professional experience.

1- Brief Introduction about the job/career
2- Qualification
3- What is required and how they should prepare.(Training and emphasize on course abstract)?
4- Where and how they should approach for that job(companies and interview preparations)?
5- What could be the career path in long run?
6- Referral if there is any

PS: The hard copies of your article will be provided to targeted department/students or a central location.

Please write you comments and suggestions at www.merachamn.com/

There is a hadith if you see anything bad happening, stop it physically if you can't stop it raise your voice and if can't do this too at least think something bad is happening. Why should think and talk negative, try to be positive if anything good happening or could be good prospect INITIATE, PARTICIPATE and APPRECIATE

Few years back when I came to US and got the chance to talk to a Alig and professor in a university, I asked if he had something for AMU students or can they be sponsored for research position in his university and his department. He said he could offer position/scholarship but he never got students with the kind of experience/knowledge in that area. I asked if he ever communicated this specialized area to AMU student/department and how could they prepare themselves. By that time (2001) internet had already matured and information could be communicated years back and students could be trained to give him a realistic chance to hire or sponsor for research position.

Opportunity comes at time but sensing the future and making early efforts make the difference otherwise we can only make excuses.

Hi there!

Its been a roller coaster ride for me so far as far as job hunting is concerned. I m in the middle of my career and sort of learning each day when i look for a change. My entire xpereince to job hunting is very memorable and forgettable too. Ok, let me share it with u.
It all started in the campus itself. I belonged to Computer Science department of AMU. Our depratment had no priviledge of campus placement. I mean it was not that good. So, v had to depend upon the mercy of ZHCET's placement cell. They were generous and used to allow the MCA students to sit for the campus recruitment tests in their department. But, still it was not enough for entire MCA students to get placed. So, the leftovers had to try their luck in the market on their own. I was one of the few lucky for this.
So, i reached Delhi for job hunting rather for project first.....
Ok, i m falling short of time now
...will write the rest tomorrow...

Ok, let me begin from where i left yesterday.
So, to get a project training in in IT company I went to Kolkata(old name Calcutta) first. I personally visited each and evry IT company there and placed my CV but nothing happened. No one responded positively. Only Globsyn scheduled an interview and that too was for IT education. I was not interested in it so i did not do well in the interview. After getting no +ve response from any company there, i got depressed. But, as the project training was mandatory(part of the curriculum), i had to continue hunting for this.
So, i decided to head for Delhi coz there was more IT companies than that in Kolkata. I packed my baggaes and reached Delhi with some hope.
I did the ground work first. I met lot of my seniors and tried to get as much info as I can. I passed on my CV to the refrenced companies first. Then I started visiting each and every IT company in and around Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. I almost placed my CV personally in all the IT companies in the region. Luckily, i got call from some companies but ultimately i was not through finally.
The first company where i appeared for a test was ST Microelectronics. Thanks to Asif(senior Alig) bhai who forwarded my CV there. But, i could not encash on the opportunity. I cleared thefirst two rounds but finally i could not clear the last round. So, they said no to me.
After this i kept applying in different companies. After some time, i met one guy from JMI(Jamia) through one of my friend. He forwarded my CV in Polaris. And I was called by Polaris for a test. I could not clear the first round as the test was on Sybase which I did not know at all. Having missed these two precious opportunities, i was sort of disappointed but still hopeful. Due to my personal effort I got a call from Bunka Orient India (BOI) - a Japanese s/w company. I took the test and was out in the first round. I dont know wahat went wrong there. I could not find that out. By this time, I had passed almost 2-3 months in job hunting. I did not get any positive response from anywhere. During my visit to companies, I came across with lots of bad expereinces as well. Some companies happily took the CV and promised to get back to me soon, some refused to take, some allowed to meet the HR, some even failed to recognize AMU itself (and this was very disappointing). So, the total overall xpereince was very unsatisfying for me. I had done the basics like placing the CV in companies, posting the CV on jobsites, meeting with seniors, talking to HRs, talking to placement agencies but nothing seemed to work out.
3 months passed and nothing happened. Others were able to join companies either through off campus or through some reference(jugaad). But i was failing in both. And I didn't had any solid reference(jugaad). So, it was no hope situation for me. But, I was learning a lot with all my efforts.
I literally fell ill very badly and I was planning to leave Delhi for Kolkata. My brother came to Delhi to take me with him. I was very disappointed and cursing myself for not able to crack any offcampus finally. Then my batchmate Sanjeev informed me that PIS is hiring. And some of my seniors worked there before. I met them and asked them to forward my CV there. They did it and ultimately i was called for a test and interview. Somehow, I managed to clear the test and interview. They offered me to join them as a project trainee and agreed to pay a stipend of Rs. 2500/-. Oh, I was so happy for this that i cant describe it in words. Though I joined late but among my batchmates I was one of the few lucky who were getting stipend. (I thank my seniors for this. Without their push, it would not have been possible.) So, i recovered very fast and I was well and healthy suddenly. I cahnged my plan to go back to Kolkata and joined PIS.
Within 5 months I completed my project and submitted this to the Computer Science department of AMU to get awarded of the MCA degree. Well, everything seemed to b alright. I got my degree and PIS was planning to abssorb me in the company as a regular employee. Then the unfortunate 9/11 happened. And the IT world over was in chaos.
One fine day(soon after 9/11) in PIS, one of colleague asked me if I am an ISI agent. I got disturbed by this very badly. I said no to this. But then the company itself was not doing well. So, they decided not to continue with me and asked me to leave the company. I left the company with a disappointment. And started looking for my first job again.
I stayed back in Delhi for some time. When nothing positive came, I went back to Kolkata to take a break.
I stayed in Kolkata for few months and then decided to come back to Delhi for a job. I reached Delhi again and applied in almost each and every IT company but of no good result. At that time, call center industry was booming. so, i decided to join a CC for some time in order to cover my expense in Delhi. I tried my luck in CCs but most of the CC companies refused to hire me by saying that I was a highly qualified person and they were looking for graduates and MBAs. I cleared all the rounds in GE, Daksh(now IBM), Spectramind(Wipro), EXL, ebookers and so on but they all refused to take me. I was again very disappointed but kept trying my luck. Then I got to know about a Technical Writers position in NIIT. I took the test and joined them. they were offering 5K as a monhly salary. Though it was a different job altogether but i joined NIIT coz i had no other option. I worked there for 2 months. The job was not of a software development so, i decided to quit that. Alongwith the job i kept trying and trying. Finally, I got a call from ASC (the JMI guy had forwarded my CV). I left NIIT and joined ASC as a software engineer for a monthly stipend of 10k for initial 6 months.
Thats how i got my first and second job.....I am still in the process of getting stabilized in the IT company. Lets c where do I landup...

So, my suggestion for the job hunters would be:
1. to B confident and b positive
2. Believe in yourself
3. Do all the basics of job hunting like send resumes to companies, post resumes on jobsites, talk to placement agencies, get reference through seniors(just ask them to forward your CVs) and son on

If you do all this, I am sure you would get a good job soon.

All the best!

Cheers!

As correctly said by Nighat sahiba struggle is the part of the life. Your story is not different than your predecessors but luckily now a days situation has improved little bit due to high demand of IT professionals. It seems you want to share your experience with your successors to motivate them which is fine but you can make it more effective by sharing your professional experience in terms of knowledge. There are so many things can be abstracted from your story few are given below.

1- Preemptive approach to find the company for final year project rather than waiting for final year.

2- Have enough knowledge of different fields/software/tools before approaching companies for project work.

3- Good communication with seniors works in most of the cases.

Since you worked as a technical writer you can share your experience and knowledge as per guidelines give above. This is the career which is not known to most of the people and it does not need any computer/technical degree. It is a great opportunity for someone who is either good or wishes to improve his English language besides computer knowledge. Acquiring needed knowledge/skills, preparing and approaching appropriately can create a chance for non IT professionals. I think this should be the approach of IT seniors how to inform, prepare and recruit non IT students in IT sector jobs that do not need any IT degree. All such possibilities should be communicated to students on urgent basis.

Please see follwoing articles for more guidelines.

Hello Nikhat Aapa and Arshad Bhai,

ASAK

I really appreciate your words of encouragement and appreciation.

Yup, m moving forward with a positive frame of mind.

Well, Nikhat aapa, I am from Kolkata currently in Bangalore working for CGCI Pvt. Ltd. How about you.

Well, Arshad bhai, you nicely extracted the important points from my message. I will try to bring up an article on Know-How of technical writer's job. But, you are mistaken Technical Writer with Content Writer. Technical writer's job requires technical knowledge as it deals with technical topics whereas Content Writer's job requires good English knowledge. Thats all!

I will write more this next time.

Thanks!

Samiullah Khan - Technical Writer - an emerging Unregistered | Sep-12-07
Well, technical writer's job is most sought after these days. Its a new job segment created by IT industry. It has a very lucrative future ahead. The eligibility criteria for a TW's job is BE/B.Tech/MCA. The selcetion process for a TW's job varies from company to company. But the basic standard is same. They test a candidate on English language and Technical skills. The interview process is followed by HR interview.

Once selected, they put the candidate for a one-two week/s training on technical writing skills.

After the training, they provide a list of topics on all computer areas like Programming, OS, Database, Network and so on. From this list, the candidate is supposed to pick topics and start writing his/her articles. It should be kept in mind that the article you write should not be a copy of texts from books, magazones, websites, etc. It should be completely original in nature. This is where your entire creativity and knowledge of the subject are tested.

Once the article is completed, it is submitted for review to check for grammatical mistakes, technical error, spelling mistakes and plagiarism. If it is a found to be a plagiarised topic then it gets rejected. And if plagiarism is found in your 3 consecutive articles then your job job may be at stake. So, its a caution, please write original stuffs and no copy.

If the article is not found to be plagiarised then its reviewed by senior TWs and finally submitted/uploaded to the client site after the manager's approval.

Thats how, this Technical writer's job goes on. Its very exciting and challenging. After TW, one can become Intstrcutional Designer and then Manager where pay is very hefty.

Note:- One more thing to note about a Technical Writer's profile is that you don't need to be programmar for this. But, ya if you are a programmar then it will help you in doing your job in a better way.

So, all the best.

Thanks!

Regards,
Samiullah Khan
