Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) - Award of KVPY Fellowship- 2007 (effective from 01.04.2008)
Eligibility
Basic Sciences Stream SA: Students joining in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2007-2008 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in the X Standard Board Examination. Stream SB: Students pursuing First Year B.Sc. degree / M.Sc. Integrated (UG Programme) in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2007-2008 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination.
“Students of Class 12 (+2) of the academic year 2007 - 2008 who are aspiring to join ISSER for Integrated M. S programme for the session August 2008 may also take the KVPY Aptitude Test for the SB Stream provided they secure a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in X Standard Board Examination
Stream SP: Students pursuing XI, XII standard, First or Second year of any UG programme in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2007 – 2008 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in X Standard and XII Standard Board examination may apply by completing a science based research project. The report of the project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/ professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during the month of December 2007 or first week of January 2008. Application without the project report will not be considered.
Olympiad Students who represent India in the International Olympiads Physics/Chemistry/Biology /Mathematics/Informatics and Astronomy in 2007 will automatically qualify for KVPY Fellowship provided they complete X Standard Board Examination by 2007 and continue studying in science subjects.

Engineering
Stream EA: Students joining First year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch during the academic year 2007 - 2008 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in XII Standard Board Examination may apply by completing an Engineering Research project.
Stream EB: Students joining Second year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch during the academic year 2007 - 2008 having a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in the first year exam of B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch may apply by completing an Engineering research project.
Note for Students applying for Engineering Stream (EA and EB)
KVPY application requires the report of a project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at IIT, Bombay during the month of December 2007. Application without the project report will not be considered, in both the stream EA/EB.
The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.). Applicant`s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. The supervising teacher/professional is required to provide a recommendation letter on the form (supplied along with the application form) certifying the extent of the applicant`s original contribution to the project.
Medicine
Stream MA: Students enrolled in Second Year M.B.B.S. programme during 2007 - 2008. Students must have passed XII Standard Board Examination with 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in Science subjects. A Copy of the Bio – Medical research project is required along with the application.
Note for Students applying for Medicine Stream(MA)
KVPY application requires the report of a project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at ICMR, New Delhi. Application without the Bio-Medical project report will not be considered.
The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.). Applicant`s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. The supervising teacher/professional is required to provide two recommendation letters on the form (supplied along with the application form) certifying the extent of the applicant`s original contribution to the project.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Basic Sciences (SA and SB)
After scrutiny of application forms and based on the performance in the Board Examination, about 10,000 – 12,000 candidates from Streams SA and SB will be called for a written aptitude test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at different centers across the country on 4th November 2007 (First Sunday). The details of the venue of the aptitude tests will be mailed to the short listed candidates in October 2007. Based on the performance in the aptitude test up to 600-800 candidates in Streams SA and SB will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
Sciences (SP); Engineering (EA, EB) and Medicine (MA)
KVPY applicant is required to submit the project report, chosen and executed by the candidate exclusively for this application. The projects done jointly with other candidates are not considered for KVPY Fellowship award. Applicant’s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. This project has to be supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at IISc, Bangalore, IIT-Bombay, Mumbai and ICMR, New Delhi during the month of December 2007 or first week of January 2008.
Please Note that applications without the project report will not be considered. The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.) The supervising teacher / professional is required to provide a recommendation letter certifying the extent of the applicant’s original contribution to the project.
Request for Application Form
a. Each Stream has its own application form. Students who wish to apply for more than one Stream should submit separate applications.
b. Applicants may apply either by Hard copy or Online. (www.iisc.ernet.in/kvpy).
c. Application forms may be down loaded from the KVPY website. Those who are unable to do so, may request for a Hard Copy.
d. Hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request by sending a processing fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. 25/- for SC/ST) by means of DD/IPO drawn in favour of SID A/c KVPY payable at Bangalore, clearly indicating the stream (SA, SB, SP, EA, EB, MA) on the envelope.
e. The SC/ST – candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma.
f. The completed application form along with the
1. Caste certificate in the case of SC/ST candidate
2. Project report in the case of SP/EA/EB/MA
3. copy of the marks statement of the qualifying examination(s), in the case of EA/EB/MA
4. Processing fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. 25/- for SC/ST) should reach KVPY on or before 14.9.07 (Friday).
g. KVPY will not be responsible for postal delays in receiving completed application.
h. Last date for receipt of the request for an application form.
