The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) court has recommended a panel of three names to be sent to the visitor, the President of India. These include the names of Prof(Dr) P.K.Abdul Azis, Lt.Gen. Zaheeruddin Shah and Prof. Shahabuddin. M. Pathan.

By observing the situation in last few weeks and university being in news for odd reasons it is speculate that Gen. Shah will be the first choice to be appointed as new Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.  Lieutenant General ZameerUddin Shah, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, is among the top four officials in the Indian Army whereas other two are academicians and they are presently Vice Chancellors of universities.

Though traditionally Aligarh community has preferred academician but AMU has seen mostly bureaucrats as Vice Chancellor in last 30 years. The Aligarh community seems to be divided between the choices of an academician and bureaucrat. It is assumed outside Aligarh community (EC and court members etc) are in favor of bureaucrat whereas local EC and court members looking for an academician as the new Vice Chancellor .
