Three students from Aligarh Muslim University ( AMU ) were identified for beating up the son of Mayor, Ashutosh Varshaney. After the incident communal tension in the city has risen and as precautionary measures police before Juma prayers enacted Section 144.

It is to be noted that three students beat up Anupam Varshney son of Mayor Aligarh while he was returning from tuition. The students are identified as Ayiaz Mohammad, Suhail Khan and Ashraf all three from Azamgarh. BJP and ABVP students wing of RSS has taken up the issue and trying to gain the political mileage from it.

Yesterday several meetings were held and the decision of handling the case in their own way was taken in case police fails to arrest the students. ABVP activists demonstrated against the incident and submitted a five-point demand to the DM insisting the early arrest of the people involved. Police said that with the help of AMU Proctor’s Office it has initiated the action against the named students.

They have also informed the Azamgarh Police about the incident and sought their help. The police have also intimated the parents of the accused informing about the activities of their sons
