Yadoon Ke Jharoke

Despite having spent many years in AMU and having visited various halls in  the campus (particularly the R. M. Hall where my batchmate used to stay),

The tea stall Cafe de Phoos had a couple of nicknames: "Cafe De Richshaw" and "Cafe  De Sentimental" and the owner was nicknamed "Maulana Chimgadard" and he opened the Tea Stall late in the evening (Usually around Maghrib) and would stay open till Fajr. It was frequented by students and Rickshaw pullers. His most famous preparation was "Band Kabab" - pretty much what a modern Hamburger is......and believe me it was delicious as well as very fulfilling....

This also reminds me of the reference to Kabir Tea Stall. I believe this probably is what in the early 70s was the "Tea House" in Shamshaad Market. It was owned by a person named "Kabir", who looked a lot like Mohd Rafi (Singer) and needless to add the music playing there would invariably be from the old movies from 40s, 50s and 60s. He also had a very well known waiter called Alam who was a hunchback. From what I heard, they both died very young, probably around late 70s or early 80s.

Regards.

It was my first saturday's night in S.S.(N) after transferring from Allama Hall, where we enjoyed everything freely without any fear of seniors. In SM North(A) of SS(N), there were many my junior collegues who were transferred from other halls as I was from A.I.Hall, but mostly seniors who were eager to see us who were from A.I.Hall because we were very near and dear to Syed Hamid Sb., who separated us from seniors. My seniors including Waseem Bhai(now inner circle of Sonia Gandhi), Najam Bhai and Jaan Mohd. Bhai, who encounterred with me on first Saturday's night with preplanned and asked me first question? How you enjoyed in Allama Iqbal Hall without seniors presence? As being first encounter with seniors properly, after one year, I was unable to reply them. Suddenly one senior shouted at me take off your kurta from your body and hold this lota with your kamarband and start running with all juniors to speak with loudly voice "Hum Sab Dhurre Hain, Sare Senior Dhurre Hain" from Babe-Ishaq Gate towards SM North(B), Usmania, Central and SS East and seniors also remind us no any junior should be cought by any other hostel's seniors either we all shall be punished for whole night as we passed through SM North B and Usmania many seniors of concerned hostel's try to catch us but finally we were able to run away from them.

After reading all this, one rightly feels that the emotional world is far bigger than the physical world. AMU is a small piece of land that can be visited in day, but it holds so tons of memories & nostagias attached to thousands of its alumnis. It's just nostalgic to think of all this. Sometimes, even mysterious.
