I remember in the '70s there used to be an old gentleman who would open a roadside tea stall only in the evenings very close to Khandelwal in Shamshad Market. Once I asked him to`serve me French toast. He asked me what on earth was that. I gave him the recipe and since then at least once a week I would go there. Even before I could order, he would make my favorite French toast. Tea used to be just an excuse for an evening out, friends would sit in tea stalls for hours together over a single cup and discussions would range from philosophical topics to studies to teachers to literature to latest movies and just about anything and everything. Those used to be the good old days of Aligarh. Would definitely like to hear about such memories of our Alma Mater from other Aligs.
