I can’t forget the day when I was going to R. M. hall from University Canteen, I choose the road which goes between the Arts Faculty and Theology Dept. Its was not a very good road at that time, It was made by bricks only, not so smooth.

" Khair main jaise hi is road se R. M. wale road par aaane wala tha ek Sudani bhai paidal chale aa rahe the and doosri taraf se ek sahab cycle par sawar thee, Due to the sharp turn they don’t saw each other and it was a collision. Both were on road...

The Sudani guy stand up and said "Abey Kya Bihari hai.."

I was watching this and you can image the way how extempore the sudani bhai said this, It was funny.

NOTE : Please don’t mind if someone hurt with the language.

In the AMU campus Behari a state of behaviour(Ek kaifiyat ka naam hai) yanee eik istalah hai.It is not necessary that person should be from state of Bihar.
A person from Farangi Mahal Lucknow can also be called Behari and I remeber there was one from that famous boy from the
Mohalla of Ulema and Elites of Awadh, who was called Behari.
The enlightened boys from Bihar know it very well and dont feel offended.
During late 50's and early 60's the 20% Morrison Court was inhabited by students from Bihar and in events of the power breaks, the S M East boys used to tease the Morrison dwellers by slogans " ek-do teen -Beharee and in retaliation there were showering of comments from the inhabitants of stable,80% of whom were not from Bihar state. One of my seniors described that Bihar is as Bi-har whereas the Behari is written as Be-hari and in Urdu script , Bihar is written with small hay and Behari written with big Hay.

Salams to all
Have a Happy Holi
I remember when I was in AMU we used to go meet holi with my friends and have fun.
When I was young( that still I am),once a sister of my friend NMK Varshney gave me Bhang ka laddu. When I returned to Hostel I was flying in the air and made lots of noise, Dr Mashooq Ali Saheb from University Health service was called who certified me to have consumed marjuana and i was sent down for 1 week.Leaning this the father of my friend rushed to the provost Choudhry Sultan Saheb's residence infront of Sulaiman Hall, with his 13 years old daughter and my class fellow to explain my innocence.Since I was not at fault the Provost accepted the apology and absolved me from the charge.
In Morrison Court we had Amar Singh who was Pahalwan and Athlete,he was eating 10 dunlops(nans)He was popularly known as SHER-E- DASTERKHWAN .Another tall and hafty Kanhayya Lal kharey from Hyderabad, was a popular guy,he later got a very suitable job of Forest ranger.Another frequent visitor to Aftab hall from Sulaiman hall was Prashant Mehta who was always in hurry and I called him pareshan Mehta. They were the most popular residents of the campus and they never left the hostels even during tension and riots in the Town.
It was a great time we lived with great affection.I am happy that they still live in the same way.
Very happy Holi to you and family

The concept of "Bihari" as told by by Dr. Mohsin is very interesting. Infact i know of an incident wherein there was fight between people from Sambhal and those from Bihar, and the reason - A senior hall who belonged to Sambhal called a Bihari student "Bihari". Now this fight ended when a few seniors intervened and enquired about the reason for why Biharis were so enraged. The end solution that was suggested was quite interesting -the Bihari was asked to call the senior hall as "Sambhali". The Senior Hall was more than happy with the decision!!!

I lived in Marris Hostel of VM Hall from 1954 to 1958 and did my M.Com and LLB.

My room was no 18 next to the Hall which was then known as Cultural Hall where Drama and other cultural events used to take place. Dr. Prof. Norul Hasan was the Provost. Mr. Abrar was the office incharge of Provost Office and the bearer who served our portion of the Hostel was Mangal Khan. Though it is about 50 years but still the most cherished and missed are the days I spent at Aligarh. There is no better place on this planet that AMU.
Being in Pakistan, my regret is that my children could not go to Aligarh where my family since its inception have been studying.

Allah Aligarh aur Aligarh kay jazbay to salamat rakhay.

my email is s.m.hasan@super.net.pk

If any Aligarh wants to write to me, I will be more than happy to respond.

mashhoodalig - Fifty Ghulab Eaten After Dinne Author | Dec-16-07
Dear All,
Assalamo Alaikum,
When I was in SS Hall(North, we usually had to visit with fellows to Tasveer Mahal after sleeping afternoon at Khandelwal's Hotel to eating Ghulab Jamun and Samosa which was very famous as well big in size. As we some fellows were eating there one of us asked, is here anybody who could eat fifty Ghulab Jamun after Dinner. It was really an amazing for us and we thought that he is just joking. As he claimed that I can eat today after dinner, you can bet with me. It was a bet of 50 rupees, if he will eat all we will pay him 50rupees plus cost of Ghulab Jamun and if he did not, than he will pay 50rupees plus all expenses to us as we never imagine that he can do it. Occassionally, it was Friday and we had already two Ghulab Jamuns in Dinner after finishing Dinner we proceed towards Tasweer Mahal and ordered to Khandelwal hotel pls. bring one by one Ghulab Jamun for this man untill 50finished. We were really in shocked after looking at him that he was eating Ghulab Jamun without any difficulty one by one and finished them according his promise. Finally, we lost this bet and we payed him 50 rupees plus all expenses of Khandelwal's hotel and committed that never will try to commit this mistake again with anybody.
