Prof. M. Shabbir appointed as Dean, Faculty of Law Print E-mail

In terms of Statute 7(1) of the Statutes of the University, Prof. M. Shabbir has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Law for a period of two years w.e.f. 5th Nov. 2009. He is a Senior Most Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law. He has been appointed Dr. Ambedkar Chair Professor of Law in 1992 recognizing his outstanding contributions in the field of legal knowledge. Indeed, it is coveted position. He is holder of Dr. Ambedkar Chair of Legal Studies and Research, Department of Law, AMU, Aligarh in the capacity of Incharge/Director. He is managing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hall of Residence in the capacity of Senior Most Provost. Currently, he is member of AMU Executive Council (Principal Executive Body), Academic Council (Principal Academic Body) and member of AMU Court (the Supreme Governing Body). Prof. M. Shabbir has been associated with different leading universities of India and abroad contributing in the field of Jurisprudence, Islamic Criminal Justice System, Comparative Family Law, Poverty Jurisprudence, Human Rights, Gender Justice, Development of Scheduled Castes, Weaker Sections and minorities within the framework of the Constitution of India etc.
Prof. M. Shabbir has served International Islamic University, Malaysia more than 5 years. His published books in abroad: ‘Outlines of Islamic Criminal Justice System’ and ‘Muslim Personal Law and Judiciary’ have brought laurels to him. Besides, he is having Twelve (12) published books in different facets of Law to his credits. He has published more than eighty articles in different law Journals of India and abroad. About seventy Key-note addresses and invited lectures he has addressed. He has chaired numerous seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences and conventions. He is associated with learned institutions and academic bodies. Noteworthy of them are: Member, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, India, Member, Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, Member, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, Fellow, International Institute of Islamic thought, USA, Life Member, Indian Association of Muslim Social Sciences, IOS, New Delhi, Member, Educated Chamber, Selangor, Malaysia, associated with Public Service Commissions (Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Orissa, Uttaranchal etc.), Patron, Forum for Human Rights, AMU, Aligarh, Patron, Dr. Ambedkar Forum, AMU, Aligarh. Member, Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in category of Outstanding Academician, nominated by Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India, Chairman, Academy of Objective Education Research and Development, Secretary, Foundation for Research and Development etc.
Acknowledging the contributions of Prof. Shabbir in the field of Education, he has been honoured by Shiksha Ratan and Rajeev Gandhi Excellence Awards. Recognizing Prof. Shabbir’s legal acumen, the Aligarh Muslim University has appointed him to look after the Legal Affairs of AMU the capacity of its Member Incharge.
On the basis of Prof. Shabbir’s rich experience and contributions in the field of law teaching and research alongwith his association with national and international legal Institutions and organizations, it is appears that the Faculty of Law will be getting pragmatic leadership coupled with dynamic and visionary approach of Prof. M. Shabbir in the capacity of the Dean, Faculty of Law and the Faculty will be flourishing achieving its objectives in present competitive and globalized scenario.
