Resolution passed by the General Body of AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) in its meeting held on 5.11.2009 at 6:30 P.M. at the Staff Club

Item No. 1.

This meeting of the General Body of AMU Teachers’ Association expresses its shock and dismay over the closure of the University. The meeting strongly feels that by this unwarranted closure of the University the careers of thousands of students have been jeopardized.
This meeting is of the considered view that the main reason for the present trouble in the University is the communication gap between the University community and the Vice-Chancellor. This is more so in the absence of any representative body of the students as no elections to the Students’ Union, Academic Council and AMU Court have been held for long term.
This meeting of the General Body of AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA), therefore, strongly demands that the decision of the closure of the University must be withdrawn immediately and the genuine grievances of the students and the teachers must be addressed on priority basis. However, the AMUTA is of the view that a probe is required to go with the affairs of the University and therefore demands a time bound comprehensive CBI inquiry for the affairs of the University during the last three years.
The meeting offers heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family of                   Late Shahnawaz Alam and prays to Almighty Allah that his soul may rest in peace. The meeting of the General Body endorses the demand of the Executive Committee of the AMU Teachers’ Association that a compensation of Rs.20 lakhs be paid to the family of the victim by the Government.

Item No. 2.  (Unanimous)

Resolved that each teacher shall contribute Rs.200/- for the bereaved family of Late Shahnawaz Alam. Also decided that those teachers who do not want to contribute for the same may send their names in writing to the Office of the Association by November 14, 2009.
