Time will only tell who was responsible : Prof. A. A. Abbas Print E-mail
Written by AMU Correspondent

The former Vice Chancellor of Indore University, Indore and an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. A. A. Abbasi, in a talk expressed concern on the incidents unfolded in the Aligarh Muslim University during the last few days. Prof. Abbasi said that in the wake of the murder of an AMU student, it was strange that the situation turned into a crisis which was uncalled for. He said that the measures taken by the University were thoughtfully conceived and far reaching and it was hard to understand what else the University administration could do to handle the situation and what is the logic to link other problems to the incident.

Prof. Abbasi said he was a student of the Aligarh Muslim University sixty years ago and had been visiting the University frequently. He said that he always felt happy to see the progress and development that his alma mater made during this period. The all round development that the University made, especially during the last few years is not hidden to anyone. The developmental projects taken up by the University ensures a glorious future and the expansion programme is in fact a beautiful dream for which he prayed to succeed, he added.

Prof. Abbasi believed that the indefinite closure of the University is a painful decision that would have been taken under great strain. He said that the time will only tell who was responsible to bring the University to the stage of a closure but one must ponder over what would happen to the parents who dare to arrange education for their children after a lot of hardships. He argued that the University is not a factory where simply the machines are stopped and the production comes to a halt. The University is a mill where the raw material goes waste on account of a strike and the production of fresh lot takes a long time to be materialized. The concerned families are the ultimate sufferers who are devastated. The poor and middle class is also affected and their dreams are shattered forever. The loss of one year is suffered for whole life.

Prof. Abbasi urged the students and their leaders to think on this aspect. He said that the teacher who takes on revenge from his students is a mean fellow and the student who is arrogant is a shame to the institution.
