Is AMU VC fulfill the Conditions to being the VC? Print E-mail
Written by Parvez Alam JNU

Universities are autonomous and the Vice-Chancellor is the leader of a higher education institution. As per the norm he/she should be an eminent academi cian, excellent administrator and also someone who has a high moral stature.

A vice-chancellor is one who stands for the commitment of the university to scholarship and pursuit of truth. (Kothari Commission 1964-66: 334)

A Vice-chancellor should be a person with vision and (have) qualities of academic leadership with ability for administration. He should command high respect among all sections of the society. The Vice Chancellor should be a distinguished academic...(who) has commitment to the values for which the universities stand...He must have the ability to provide leadership to t he university by his academic worth, administrative competence and moral stature. (Kothari Commission 1964-66: 334) Parikh Committee was not in favour of appointing government officials as VC's. Quoting the Kothari Commission Report, the Parikh Committee mentions that the Vice- Chancellor is the most important functionary in a university not only on the administrative side but is also charged with the responsibility of creating the right atmosphere for teachers and students.

The universities need distinguished and dignified persons as VCs and it is necessary to ensure that they are treated with dignity and regard, which the office merits. (Ramlal Parikh Committee 1993: 15). The Vice- Chancellor is the most important functionary in a university, not only on t he administrative side but also for securing the right atmosphere for the teachers and the students to do their work effectively and in the right spirit. (Report of the Committee on Model Act for Universities 1964: 11).

Mohd Reyaaz Khan - What about the local teachers Unregistered | Nov-01-09
Is there any law for the corrupt / political teachers / prof... How to handle them and what actions under the law can be taken against them if they involve in destruction of the institution.

In my opinion, no doubt VC must be dynamic BUT its a team efforts, either post holder or non-post holders. VC alone can not do anything unless he come dictator.

I think we must ask people / students / teachers - who are blaming VC right at that moment, WHY they never raise question about the quality of education, fair recruitment of academic staff etc etc.

In my opinion all sensible people / alumni / staff must go in depth and find out who are behind the DHARNA, STRIKE etc, catch them and punish them.

Everything will be solved.
Mohammad Naushad - Current VC is fulfilling all c Unregistered | Nov-01-09
Support current VC, he is fulfilling all conditions, I hope university will be opened shortly.

Setup an inquiry who tried to to disturb the campus by dharna etc.
SALMAN ALAM - REPLY TO Md Reeyaz and Nushad Unregistered | Nov-01-09
I am an aligarian and i would like to ans Mr Reeyaz who said that for proper functioning of university a collective effort is required this is what the VC has forgotten and has become a dictator.he has spent more than a crore of university money to strenthen the security for himself and not for students, living in university has become like livinh in a presedential rule in case of an emergency. Also my answer to Mr Naushad is ,what conditions is VC fulfilling,of beinb involved in financial scandal or that involving his degree. So Mr Reeyaaz the students of AMU being citizens gave asked questions about their paramount supreme unjust leaer and u urself said that ,and about students on dharna i believe its their right india is still a democratic country if u do not remember,I and all my friends from GENEVA support the students cause and condemn the actions of the VC.
Mohd Reyaaz Khan - Its unfortunate your memory is Unregistered | Nov-01-09
Mr. Salman Alam, If u remember last 3 or 4 VC's, we are not satiefied with acamedic VC's, we dont like Administrators, So what do u want for AMU sitting in GENEVA. My dear come to campus and handle.

This is almost become a template, One srudent killed, handful people starts burning campus, demand VC to go (just handful), and some of the VC's try to solve the issues and we have seen whathappened to that (Naseem Farooqi sb kind a genius we insult his big time, Naseem Ahmed never return to campus etc - just few example). Why dont we figure it out issues by dialogue? Who are the people behind this dhanrna, and shouting VC to go back, If this VC will go next will come then we will have issues with the New one also, So Why not just live with that and resolve the issues, If VC or any one has done wrong , bring him to justice by law and democracy, why shouting to back, resign etc.

In my opinion the solution is TALK and TALK, not fight and harm university.

Degree, Financial Issues, Spneding money on his lifestyle, It has nothing to do with current situation, I think he has done right thing and close the university for a while, Now dharna guys also ready to talk because no support left in campus.

Last but not least, I feel we alumni raise concerns on education standards, good quality recruitments etc. Not the resignation of VC.
Nuzhat Khan - reply to Mr . Reyaz Unregistered | Nov-02-09
Mr.Reyaaz Khan, you are talking about Naseem Ahmad ,why not talk about Hamid Ansari.there were no dharnas , strikes or hartals during his regime.
It's not that there is no dedicated head left on earth.

VC is not a good acdemicain as we all know he is through out III division in his career. If he had applied 4 admission in AMU at that time he was not granted the same bcoz of not fulfiling the basic requirement of 45/40% marks. Even his credentials are well know, his misgiving troubled the KUSAT and the same is happening here. HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE KICKED OUT FROM THIS UNIVERSITY AT THE EARLIEST

1.World Alumni Summit
2.Ejected out 1800 illegals
3.180cr of aid for developments in AMU
4.5 AMU centres approval & 50Cr fot it
5.Onlie form availablity.
6.Internet facility in every faculty & every hall

11.Sense of security in campus as there was some insecurity among students before coz numbers of illegal were living in hostels.
12.All India center for entrance exam.....
and so many works.......

Even after doing so much for this university ,few students are demending his resignation ,Its very shameful for us.
He is the person who has carried real legacy of sir Syed by establishing 5 centre of learning of AMU,a real aligarh Movement..
You compare his work and previous VC works and find the difference in his deed and in others deed

5.has four official luxury cars to ferry him or his family around.
6.paid his annual income-tax from university funds.

Imran - reply to hasan Unregistered | Nov-08-09
my dear bro..assalam alaikum....u hav listed the great works of current VC.
u said about alumni summit..but the same VC doesn't allow the alumni to stay at hostels with their known persons...and treat them as illegals...u said about funds but the same VC is indulged in previous money scams, who knows what will he do with this money...u said about IIT upgradation of engg college but for ur kind information it is not started by him, and stll this plan has no future...

but one or two thing is really gudd like internet facility and online application, but u must know that there r only 3 systema provided in halls..is it enough..??..

on more thing that this VC is purely for acaedemic purpose, not for administrative purpose..but a VC must posses both skills...

in my views he is enough to be a pricipal of a school or college, not more than that...

It is well known that between realities and ideas fall the shadow, the same apply here, I am not commenting about VC capabitlity directly ,but his great work within two years has proven the same,
It is a matter of sorrow that Muslisms have much more nagative mind and the same is applying to AMU bridari, it is not first time of AMU ,even former VCs Syed Hamid and N farooqi, Dr, Ziyauddind sb ,were tortured so much by miscreants and some misguided students despite doing great work for us .
Today the world is laughing at Stduents'illogical demand : How can any authority be responsble for a off campus incident, it is Distt Administration responsibilty, but we just cry ,do not use mind ,Oh my community ,please appreciate Allah's blessing ,which He has given in the shape AMU and run it smoothly ,or else He well snatch the same,
Zubair Khan
Jamal A Siddiqui - Nuzhat Khan's opinion Unregistered | May-28-11
I do agree what Nuzhat Khan has said. Being Aligarian it is our moral responsiblity to save the university' status and value. The simplest method of judging the efficiency, clarity and fairness by seeing the record of the appointments made during his tenure. Try to see the furniture in VC's lodge costing in Lakhs. Instead of his royal life he should try to understand the problem of the university in general and the students in particular.
