The decision to close all the institution associated with Aligarh Muslim University indefinitely is not only shocking but also very much unfortunate. It was beyond our imagination that just to quell the students' protest AMU administration would take such final step which is going to put the career of 30000 students at stake. Last night, I visited most of the Halls of Residence where students are more than willing to stay, though students from distant states and fresher batches are leaving the university premises as asked by the AMU administration due to the pressure from Provosts and fear of Police action. However everyone expressed their shocking views that how a peaceful movement can led to the indefinite closure of the university. Students from professional courses are the worst sufferer. Their classes were going on in full swing and were not disturbed by anybody. The students I met at the Nadim Tarin Hall or Hadi Hasan Hall, was convinced that university administration irresponsibly has taken this decision and put their career at stake where they need to appear in their respective exams soon and get the results. Along with all this when the condition of the people sitting at the indefinite hunger strike are deteriorating we can only see Police vans around. So keeping in view of the semester exams of professional students and prof exams and other interns at the medical courses, also keeping in mind the last date for the NET/JRF exam as on 7th November, 2009 and above all the ultimate academic life of our alma mater AMU Students Struggle Committee would like to offer olive branch to the AMU administration to end these moments of despair by asking only- 1. Revoking the order of indefinite closure of the University for the Better Interest of the students and university itself. AMU administration should not hamper the life and career of all the students by taking such harsh step. 2. No action would be taken by AMU administration against any student involved in the protest in the events followed after the death of Mr. Shahnawaz. AMU administration would also take immediate action to quash the FIR against its students. 3. Resignation by the Proctor and DSW along with his team. 4. Restoration of elected Students Union in this session only to provide a democratic platform to the students for voicing their grievances. 5. 24x7 well maintained canteen with multiple menu in JNU model & stationary cum general store at every halls of residence. 6. No massive raids at the Halls of residence and imposing arbitrary fines, transferring to NRSC. To check illegal residents, Provost along with some student representative should monitor the Halls of residence. Citing the academic reason I tried to end this stalemate earlier but some agitating students are very much emotional when it comes about the Vice-Chancellor. Now if our University administration passes a resolution to meet all these demands in writing we can end this dharna and hunger strike till death and resume our academic activity. If I get any good response from any authority of AMU administration, all students sitting at the hunger strike shall sign the same and submit it properly to the Vice-Chancellor. The larger interest of this university is to resume its academic activity and no students should suffer academic loss due to such harsh decision. Now the choice lies with the University administration Adil Hossain M.A. (Prev) (Mass Communication) 42-Aftab Hostel ,Aftab Hall, AMU Aligarh
