The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis has appointed the Advisory Committee of the Prominent Old Boys to examine the idea of establishing the Special Centres of AMU with a request to submit its report by December 15, 2009 for consideration by the University. AMU is poised for a historic expansion in the coming decade. The decision of the University to open five special centres in Murshidabad (West Bengal), Malappuram (Kerala), Katihar (Bihar), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Pune (Maharashtra) has won global appreciation by the AMU alumni. Many senior old boys from across the world have conveyed great excitement and have desired to contribute their might in creating institutions of world class excellence at these sites. Having been able to know and work with many of the distinguished old boys of AMU, the idea appealed to the Vice Chancellor as of immense potential. A twelve member Advisory Committee of the prominent old boys under the convener ship of Dr. Masood Akhtar of the Middletown, USA will meet on October 14, 2009 in the India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi. The other members of the committee are Engineer Nadeem Akhtar Tareen, Riyadh (KSA), Mr. Zaigham Khan, KSA, Mr. Ameen Ahmad, Group Managing Director of Teejan Group of Companies, Sultanate of Oman, Mr. Faisal Saleem, USA, Mr. Ali Rizvi, President, Federation of AMU Alumni Associations of USA, Mr. M A A Fatmi, former Minister of State for HRD, Mr. Khwaja Mohammad Shahid, New Delhi, Mr. Safdar H. Khan, Senior General Manager, Trade Fair Authority of India, New Delhi, Mr. Syed Hasan Kamal of USA, Mr. Frank Islam, Chairman and CEO, FI Investment Group, LLC, USA and Prof. Javed Musarrat of INA Research Chair of King Saud University, Riyadh (KSA). The Advisory Committee will collect suggestions from the AMU Old Boys from across the globe through various networks and e-mails for establishing state-of-the-art campuses, prepare a framework for academic activities in the new centres taking into account the need for the emerging world and employability of the youth. The committee would also identify sources of intellectual, technical and other forms of support from the alumni and well-wishers around the world to offer cutting edge programme to the new generation students. The Committee has been assigned the task to identify courses that AMU should offer at these new Centres and identify potential mentors and collaborators for various programmes. The Advisory Committee of the prominent AMU Alumni would prepare a concept plan for each Centre that the University intends to start. AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis said that the Committee may submit its report by December 15, 2009 and the University would organize a national level brain storming session in New Delhi to consider this report. The University would give its best of consideration to the emerging ideas and would be placing it before the statutory bodies of the University for taking a final view and develop a vision plan for these new Centres |
