The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis today inaugurated a two day All India Seminar on "Ergonomics for Improved Productivity" organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institution of Engineers (India) Aligarh Local Chapter at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology. He also released the proceedings and in his address, Prof. Azis stressed on ergonomics being a ‘topic of universal significance’.

The ongoing Dharna at the Jantar Mantar by 30 students has got support from the intellectual circle of New Delhi in the recent times and now getting intensified. This struggle by the peaceful agitators has become the fight for their existence now after Vice-Chancellor using the draconian laws of AMU Students Conduct and Discipline Act, 1985 which are contravention to the article 19 of the Indian Constitution has suspended and imposed campus ban on 29 students. Now the students who offered space for dialogue to the AMU administration are very much ready to mobilize the entire students' community of India and convince the intellectual community to throw light in the sad state of affairs at AMU.

Aligarh Muslim University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the INHolland University of Amsterdam for the exchange of students and academic staff between the two Universities along with joint activities in the area of course development, student internships and higher research.

The Deans of Faculties and Principals of Colleges of Aligarh Muslim University have urged the agitating students and teachers to call off their agitations and create a conducive atmosphere for the reopening of the University as soon as possible. The appeal was made after the meeting held on November 8-9, 2009.

The 30 students of Aligarh Muslim University Students Struggle Committee are still sitting on dharna since 1 November, 2009 at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi with the hope that the Hon'able Minister of HRD and PMO would intervene in this issue and end this deadlock for the interest of this institution of national importance and the university which offers the only hope for the minority education in India.
